Writing content online sounds easy until you sit down and actually do it. Where should these writers begin, what should they focus on most, and why are we asking so many questions?!
Looking for remote jobs as a writer is challenging. Don't worry, it isn't impossible, even if it feels like it is. Pushing through adversity and different hurdles can strengthen a writer's grit (determination) while creating their works. Remember, the profession itself faces excessive and extensive criteria and other adversities, like excessive edits, changing one's tone, or revising everything from start to finish. However, is it enough to prove to yourself and future employers or clients that you are better than the top freelancers in the world? Start with what you know and expand it.The biggest mistake new, current, and returning writers make is trashing everything they wrote before, and starting over from scratch. It's okay to pick apart your work and rewrite it. The digital content we create will always exist, especially if there's an edit button close by. Do not feel that writers have to delete or purge everything, and start over from scratch. Now, there will come a specific time when the writer or author would want to start all over. Honestly, that's also okay. It's normal for writers to start over from scratch before a huge wave of subscribers and potential clients conduct business with them. Still, save some of the older content and rewrite them. Why is this advice important? Writers should cherish their content and use their knowledge to their advantage. This is important because time and style always change, never staying the same. On the internet, it is almost a trending factor to develop a habit and update one's content every other three to six months to make sure it adheres to the currency rule. If the content is evergreen enough, people could use it even if a decade has flown by in a blink of an eye! This is worthwhile content with strong, regular traffic and back links. Use job boards or freelancing platforms!Today, over 50% of online job boards are looking for applicants with at least one year of work experience. Even if bloggers or returning workers (remote, hybrid, or traditional) didn't switch jobs or minimal work history for an entire calendar year, they're always encouraged to apply for something better. Writers should also track down internal career sites and job listings to increase their chances of getting hired within 14-to-21 days. Writers and independent editors would also rely on different job boards and freelancing services, like Fiverr, Upwork, Legiit, and Freelancer. These platforms are competitive and filled with similar services. However, it is possible for a beginner to pick up favorable gigs here and there. The key is networking and marketing your gig as soon as it is live on high traffic platforms, like Instagram or Quora.
Use effective research skills and go after what works!Applying for every writing position is okay if there's not much to lose. However, there are fake companies and job requesters out there looking for naive writers and remote job seekers. Even if writing isn't everything, it is important to fact check each company or offered job. One wrong move, and one's writing career is over! After fact checking and researching if the job is worthwhile, apply for it! How should bloggers apply for something that's beyond their skill level? Writers should always have their portfolio available and several PDF files (which one can create via Google Docs; easy access on any device) to showcase their raw talent. This helps during the application process, and shows how prepared the applicant is. One way for writers to apply for something beyond their skill level is increasing their current writing and editing habits. Some employers or clients understand that many can write a 500-word blog post, but what other qualities does that writer have? That blogger could have one of the fastest WPM typing skills for their niche(s). Maybe another blogger understands three different languages and can write up to 3,000 words per post five times a day. Is there something unique about the portfolio that will trigger a "you're hired, welcome aboard" response from prospective employers? Let's wrap it up (Summary)!Writing isn't for everyone. However, it is worthwhile, especially if the writer understands their content is worth much more than $0.01/word. Create a portfolio with the strongest blog posts. Employers like seeing effective transition from the author or presented blog website. Always find ways to engage the readers, even if it is a quick "thank you" shout out towards the end. This shows prospective employers the author understands how to use their writing to push products, close sales, and attract high volume engagement through text and visuals. Finally, be cautious when using job boards. Some people enjoy exploiting writers, especially newcomers or returning bloggers. Always find a direct link to the internal job board or reach out to the employer. While times are changing, more web-based platforms are pushing companies and freelancers to provide a direct email or phone number to increase effective communication. Resources
